Suggest Puerto Plata:
Ocean World Adventure Park, Marina and Casino. 15 minutes west from Puerto Plata city, this zoo and marine park was built into a spectacular location that is farmed by the multi-tonal blues of the Atlantic Ocean. The park features the world's largest custom-made dolphin lagoon, swimmable aquarium, sea lion encounters, shark interaction pool, tiger feeding and birds areas, in addition to a large man-made beach and marina.
Fun City Action Park (Go Kart and Bumper Car Park). Because it is an open-air attraction, Fun City is open in the late afternoons and evenings.
Puerto Plata Lighthouse. Built in 1879, the lighthouse was restored in 2002 with a grant from the World Monuments Fund that valued this 24.4-meter high rare cast iron tower, only one of very few still standing in the Americas.
Brugal Rum Factory, the largest in the Dominican Republic and third largest producer of sugar cane rum. A tour can be taken to observe part of the manufacturing process. The tour ends with a daiquiri tasting and the opportunity to purchase the finer quality rums at best prices.
Amber Museum (Calle Duarte 61). Located in a 1919-built mansion, the Amber Museum shows off one of the better collections of amber anywhere in the world. See the mosquito-encased amber that Steven Spielberg used in the film Jurassic Park, or a 42.5-centimeter lizard fossil, or the biggest bio-inclusion feather fossil in the world.
Isabel de Torres Botanical Gardens. Take the 2,565-foot (800 meter) cable car ride up Isabela de Torres, the peak overlooking Puerto Plata… and indulge in the 135,000 square meter gorgeous Botanical Garden at the top with its subtropical vegetation and 15 small brooks and streams amidst multiple trails.
Damajaqua Cascades (27 Waterfalls) - The majority of tourists come on a Jeep Safari Tour offered through most hotels in Puerto Plata, Sosua, or Cabarete. These tours bring tourists through beautiful Dominican countryside and lunch is included, however, they only have time to visit the first 7 waterfalls. For the more adventurous, you'll want to come on your own, in either public transport (guaguas), your own car, or in a taxi.
Santiago de los Cabelleros – capital city of the province of Santiago. Colonial buildings with wrought-iron details and colorful Victorian homes with gingerbread trim line the streets of this commercial hub of close to one million inhabitants.
The Dominican Republic's second largest city officially goes by the name of Santiago de los Caballeros (Santiago of the Gentlemen) and dates from the 16th C. Santiago boasts one of the finest universities in the country, the Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra and its factories manufacture rum and cigars.
Calle del Sol.--Santiago's lively main street is a pleasant shopping district.
Santiago - Duarte Park.--In Parque Duarte at Santiago's center is an elegant Victorian-style pavilion and a monument to the Heroes of the Restoration. Horse-drawn carriages wait by the park to tour the city.
Cathedral of Santiago Apostol.--The 19th C Catedral de Santiago Apostol has neoclassical features and beautiful stained glass windows. It contains the tombs of dictator Ulysses Heureaux and several Restoration heroes.
Santiago Museum.--The Santiago Museum displays an interesting compilation of historical documents, artifacts and exhibits illustrating Santiago's history. It is housed in the striking 19th C Palacio Consistorial, once the city hall.
Tobacco Museum.--The Museo del Tabaco houses an exhibit on the history of the tobacco industry from the 16th C and its importance to the economy of Santiago and the Dominican Republic.
E Leon Jimenez Tobacco Company.--At the E. Leon Jimenez Tobacco Company the art and skill of cigar making can be observed. Savor a beautifully made cigar and enjoy a cold glass of free lager.
One to two hours away:
River rafting or mountain climbing in Jarabacoa, in the center of the island. Unforgettable thrills but only for those over 14 years old.

Brazil my mum and dad went to puerto rico a few months in the past they usually stated that they've the WORST drivers there however probably that's because we're from the city that is #1 on the friendliest drivers list, and i really discovered that sort of peculiar, however i suppose if it's like puerto rico in different cities, than might be it's not so shocking.

All depends where you will be(Puerto Plata. Punta Cana or La Romana) in the D.R. Anyway Puerto Plata area offers the most for all kind of activities!

If you're swinging by Punta Cana ziplining is a very good choice. We went for a morning zipline tour and it was awesome. They also have afternoon tours if you don't want to wake up too early. They'll pick you up at the hotel. Everything is really taken care of and the staff is really professional. You can tell they've been doing this forever. The company we used is Canopy Adventure Punta Cana. You can Google them.

Great Dominican Republic attractions are the Samana Peninsula on the eastern coast for whale watching, Santo Domingo for caribbean history and culture and the gorgeous Amber Coast and Puerto Plata.

If you are young just be careful with forced prostitution and drugs. There are places and people you meet at bars/streets that give you the nice face and then kidnap you and force you to prostitu for them without a chance to escape..

Whatever you do, don't go to Punta Cana. Yes it is cheap, but it is very boring. Plus you can't venture out of your resort. Go to Puerto Plata.
