How to get rid of gas smell in washing machine?
I mistakenly threw a rag with a bit of gasoline into my HE Washing Machine. Now everything I wash comes out smelling like gas.
What would be your suggestion? With it being an HE machine, I'm somewhat limited in the foaming-type substances I can put in it!
Thanks!

You're going to need to wash the door seal, in addition to the inside of the washer. Mix 1 cup vinegar with 2 quarts water. Use that and a rag to clean the seal, making sure you get behind it and in all the folds. Frequently rinse your rag in the vinegar water & don't wring it out very well, as you want it a bit sloppy. Now dump the vinegar water into the bottom of the washer, adding another cup of vinegar. Run a quick wash. Since gasoline is such a clingy odor, you may have to do this twice.

Most washing machines I believe have a filter just like a dryer lint screen. If thats too difficult, run a couple cups of vinegar in an empty load and leave it open after the cycle to air dry. Keep doing this until smell is gone. Usually works the first time for me.
