If a manager believes that an umpire has made a call that is in conflict with the rules, the manager can lodge a protest. If the protesting team wins, the protest is dropped. The play is reviewed by the league, and if the call is overturned, the game is replayed from the point of the protest.

However, judgment calls are not subject to protest, and the infield fly call is 100% umpires judgment as to whether or not the fly ball could be fielded by an infielder with ordinary effort. It doesn't matter if the ball wasn't in the infield, since that's not part of the definition in the infield fly rule.

Protest was denied, as it should have been.

  • It means that some poor umpire screwed up big time and the losing manager wants the game thrown out.

    Guess what? It won't be.

Umpires calls are not arguable. Tough, but that's how it is.
