Dell studio 1558 touchpad not working!!?
My laptop is 2 years old but worked fine without much problem. But problem started today. I worked morning and touchpad was fine, but when i started my computer today evening, touchpad did not respond. I haven't installed a new program. I re-installed it several times. When i went to this location(Control Panel/Device Manager/) , it showed a yellow exclamatory mark in front of Dell touchpad. In properties it shows "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". Please help.
Anyone who gives me a perfect solution will receive five stars!

What do you mean by "reinstalled it several times"?
I would suggest you try redownloading the driver for the trackpad.
To find it, you can dig through Dell's website, or Google with the search "Dell studio 1558 trackpad driver", and look around.
Here's the link form Dell. http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Drive...
I would also suggest trying to reboot your laptop.
Is the battery easily removable? If it is, you can try this trick.
Turn off the laptop.
Disconnect all cables including power. Remove the battery.
Press the power button 10 times, and on the 11th time, press and hold for 30 seconds. This clears the energy from the motherboard, and acts as a "reset" for the device(This has no impact on any data, don't worry).
Reconnect the battery and all cables. See if that helps. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

I'll go with the HP for two reasons. First, I've owned both Dell and HP and I prefer HP over Dell. The Dell computers used to last forever - now they are cookie cutter junk that falls apart - I've seen this recently with a laptop a student in Graduate School has and the video was all junky clunky crappy. It was poorly designed for dissipating heat. Plenty of vents, but I was laughing my a-s-s off at the intake. The outer shell was falling apart. Also, the HP has enough RAM for both Vista and Windows7 - and you should be able to get the disc from HP for a free upgrade to Windows7 - email them and ask, or ask the place you can get the HP from if they have an upgrade disc FROM HP (not a copy, don't get stuck with garbage software that won't work next month). If you are interested in a Mac at all, AND HAVE USED ONE BEFORE, then it might be a better option if you like them and can afford one. A lot of people can't afford a Mac. Don't cave to the pressure to get a Mac if you've NEVER used one. There is a LOT more. You can email me if you want about this. And yes - I use Vista and I friggin love it. I know how to secure it and make it still do everything you need it to do.

I guess you are using a mouse, at the device manager right click the dell touchpad uninstall the driver and restart, might need to check the bios to make sure it's enable , another way restart keep pressing f8 to the windows boot advance screen, scroll to reboot and click it
