It is literally the easiest (relative) thing you will ever do in the Marines as far as training is concerned... anyone who tells you otherwise is full of sh*t. Now for some people, they simply can't adapt to the military lifestyle and structure, so even the simplest of disciplinary exercises breaks them down and they're ready to quit- those guys would fail no matter whose basic training course they attended, including government agencies, police departments, etc. Given that the average Marine recruit is 19 while the other branches are in the mid 20s, discipline, maturity and self-control are often lacking in the recruits. It is a very good thing that the Marines spend disproportionately more time conducting tedious marching drills and other disciplinary exercises to mentally build their recruits, but you're going to hate it.
Currently, the Marines have the second-lowest washout rate for a basic training course, just barely higher than Air Force BMT. Passing it is not difficult for someone who is determined, dedicated, and in even reasonable physical shape. The Marine DEP, while I have many harsh words for some of its attendees, does an excellent job at preparing its recruits, which directly affects the low washout rate I mentioned earlier.
You will never be tested on pushups in the Marine Corps in any official capacity - they are the only branch that does not. Instead, they test you on pullups- the minimum you can do is 3, but you should be able to do significantly more than that. Also, they test crunches, not situps. That's not to say you will never do those exercises, but the Marine PFT does not cover them.
The slowest you can run the 3-mile is truly pathetic (around 9:00 / mile) - the trick is maintaining a consistent speed over a distance. Ideally, you should be able to maintain a 6:00 / mile pace to get the maximum 18:00 score. However, you should have the endurance to run much further (untimed). You should also be able to ruck a considerable distance. You'll start at pretty short distances with light loads, eventually building up to longer distances and heavier loads.

It depends on your character, some of the men in the worst physical shape become the greatest Marines. It is all a mind game. I would say that it is physically tough but I think the toughest part is the mind games. Just worry less about if you are in good enough physical shape. If you make it though the Marines Boot Camp, I can guarantee you, you'll be in the best physical shape you'll EVER be in. Don't think so much about the future, think about now. The time will come and you'll be at Boot Camp on those Yellow Footprints that tens of thousands of Marines have been on and that is when you should start worrying. Because when you have a drill instructor right up your ***, you'll be nervous. I guess it is better to be prepared but, hey, they always say "You can't be prepared for Marines Boot Camp".

lol its really not that hard.. Anyone who hasn't been to basic training will tell you it's the horrible and they'll rip you too pieces.. Not true.
Be in decent shape and defiantly train in cardio because trust me, you'll be running a lot. Then be mentally good because you'll be getting yelled at all the time so just don't break under pressure.
Been there.. Army basic training.. Marines standards aren't that much higher than Army despite what half of america thinks.

Its pretty ******* hard. You need to try to get your pullups up.
If you got your pullups to 20 and run time below 18 you'd be set

It`s extremely hard. Not just physically, but mentally. And 6 pull ups and 50 push ups aren`t that great.
