Shouldn't the COOKING & RECIPES section have a FAQ?
There are so many people who come on Y!A and pose a question without ever reading the rest of the questions. They don't realize that their question has been asked a MILLION times before! One good example is, "I don't have any baking powder, can't I just use baking soda instead?" Or how about, "Can I substitute margarine for butter?", or "How do I cook pork ribs?"
If the section had a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) at the top of the page somehow, maybe (yeah, I know, but still MAYBE) people would read these questions before asking the same thing over and over again.
Thoughts, anyone?

I agree with what you're saying, but the same thing applies in other categories also. I think some people just want to see what responses they can get rather than really looking for answers. A lot of times I won't even bother to answer those types of questions unless others have actually answered incorrectly.

Well, that's why there's a search button that says Search Y! Answers. People are supposed to be cognizant enough of searching to figure that out. Alas, you're right, it seems to not be true. I find myself wanting to type in something like http://lmgtfy.com/?q=google , but that isn't very nice, is it?
The other thing I think they need is the person being able to set a limit on the time the question is valid. The questioner could choose say, I hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 Day, 4 days (default). That way, if the question had not been answered by that time, it wouldn't be sitting in the system. Say someone has a question about how long to keep an Apple Brown Betty in the oven, and it's already in there. What's the point of having the question available for 4 days - by that time not only would the dessert have burned, the whole house and neighborhood would be up in flames as well.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
