What kind of job can a English and Comm major get?

I plan on double majoring in English and Communications and also getting a teaching degree. What kind of job can I get besides teaching, being as I'm just using that for backup. Is journalism an option, or would that require a journalism degree?

This kind of major depends on your emphasis and your internships/connections. There is a need for communications majors in the medical field (teaching bedside manner to doctors, doing studies on patient communication etc.) but you have to be in that specific area of communications. Studying Public Relations wouldn't get you there.

Communications is broad enough it will open almost any door, but you have to have the experience and intelligence to back it (and the right connections can help).

Source(s): I majored in Communications and have been offered a qide variety of jobs over the ages from PR, to HR, to Education. I teach EFL now in Mexico http://eslcarissa.blogspot.mx/

If you are very lucky, you can find a job in public relations, but there are many more English and communications majors graduating than there are available jobs.

There are almost no jobs available in journalism, even for journalism majors, and then journalism job market is quickly getting worse.

Receptionist, or secretary in case your typing knowledge are rather excellent. They only rent folks with Journalism degrees for journalist jobs; there are an excessive amount of of a ability set taught in journalism institution that you simply'd lack.
