philosophy class essay! Need help with standard argument form?
So I have to write an essay for my test tomorrow, and I understand all of the different arguments by the different authors, but need help on being able to put it on paper in standard argument form.
Essay Q: Are humans the only ones entitled to Moral Status?
I am going with Cohens view on this:
P1) To have moral status, an entity has to be eligible for moral consideration
P2) Only Moral Agents are morally considerable
P3) A Moral Agent possesses the capacity to reason
P4) Animals do not possess the capacity to reason
C1) Therefore, animals are not Moral Agents and do not have Moral Status
Is this going in the right direction?

Yes, you are going in the right direction. However, some pointers would be to select 3 points from Cohen. You should then argue why or why not you agree with those points. You could also try to combine some of those points. You will then create your Thesis Statement (which is the skeleton of your essay) and build your essay off that.
So basically you should have an Intro, Body and Conclusion. In others words in the Intro you will "tell them what your are going to talk about" in the Body you will "tell them" and in the conclusion you will just "summarize what you told them."
Good Luck!
