solve this math problem?

ok here is the problem, i just cant seem to figure it out!

Fred tolls the bells 1 time at 1o'clock, 2 at 2o'clock and so on. how many times has fred tolled the bells at 12.00 ??

    Written as 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11+12

    AFTER 12, Fred has rung the bell 78 times

    sum of 1 - 12 = (n*(n+1))/2 where n=ending number
