Over 3000 years. Moses and Jacob are often seen as two of the defining characters. I don't believe that the Israelites and Hebrews started to be referrred to as Jews until a later date though, probably the Book of Esther is around the time you see this in writing. The nation of Israel was never just jewish people though and was both Jew and Gentile. It split in two at one point and the Northern kingdom of Israel maintained jewish and gentile peoples whereas the southern biblical kingdom of Judah was the Jewish nation.
