Two turkeys prepared: One smelled bad. Is the other one contaminated?

My friend prepared two turkeys. They were all set and ready to go in the oven when she noticed that one of them smelled rotten. She threw that one away. But now she's wondering: Is the second turkey contaminated because she handled both the turkeys at the same time?

Discard the other bird as well, yes, it is cross contaminated with whatever bacterium the first bird was infected with.

Wash everything the birds came in contact with using a 5% sodium hyposulfite solution (common household bleach diluted with water...approximately 2 fluid ounces bleach to 1 gallon water)

If they were both "all set and ready to go in the oven" than how did no one notice earlier? Bad poultry even feels slimy, so I tend to think it was just 'skin stink'. Bacteria grows under the fatty layer and when disturbed makes it's presence known. Still clean your kitchen, but don't worry about eating a small amount of DEAD (properly cooked) bacteria unless you are pregnant, nursing, or in compromised health.

Sometimes I think we go too far with all this 'sanitation' baloney.

    Moderation and common sense please!

    Good point.

meats and poultries and fish often may smell that way or have a smell different than when cooked.

Like in medical areas, contain the impurity by the touch, use salt to cleanse, even prayers to God and Jesus Christ to cleanse, sanctify or just not put him to the test when obvious, food is bad.
