  • Two turkeys prepared: One smelled bad. Is the other one contaminated?

My friend prepared two turkeys. They were all set and ready to go in the oven when she noticed that one of them smelled rotten. She threw that one away. But now she's wondering: Is the second turkey contaminated because she handled both the turkeys at the same time?

  • Do I have to go to my brother-in-law's wedding rehearsal?

My partner's brother is getting married, and my partner is the best man. The rehearsal is Friday night, the wedding is on Saturday, and then on Sunday, my partner and I leave to Orlando for a family trip on my side of the family. My partner's brother and his fiancee knew about the trip to Orlando from the first day they planned their wedding. I'm stressed out about getting everything together for the trip, and I'd like to skip the rehearsal Friday night -- but is this bad etiquette? Do I have to go to the wedding rehearsal?

  • What's more important in an essay: quality or word count?

I have finished writing my university-level French essay; there's really nothing else I want to say. But our prof asked us to write 2,000 to 2,500 words, not counting quotes. I'm at 1,300 without quotes, 1,500 with quotes. I think it's about as well written as it will get as I had a tutor help with the grammar. In fact, I'm worried if I added those extra 700 words, they would be of poorer quality than the rest of the essay. We got an extension until Monday. So, should I hand it in now or take the weekend to work on it further? Basically, what's more important: quality or word count?

  • Making Greek yogurt: Why isn't it draining?

I'm making Greek yogurt from fat-free, plain yogurt. I've put it in a colander over coffee filters and placed the colander in a large bowl. The colander is well above the bottom of the bowl. It's been in the fridge for nearly seven hours now, but there still isn't any liquid at the bottom of the bowl. What am I doing wrong?

  • Can a kid get heat exhaustion the next day? Or do they have a flu or virus?

My nephews and niece went camping with me (their aunt) and my parents/their grandparents yesterday. It was very hot out (about 30 degrees Celsius). They ran around all day and went swimming for a few hours, but we made them wear swimming T-shirts and hats and they were drinking water. They seemed fine yesterday, but my niece (2 years old) complained of cramps in her legs before she went to bed. Early in the morning she woke up crying of a stomach ache. Then in the morning, my oldest nephew (8 years old) said he had a sore throat and he was very tired and listless. My niece and nephew have slept most of the day today, and my niece is hot to the touch and continues to complain of a stomach ache. Neither of them have thrown up and they both still have appetites. We're now in an air-conditioned house and they are drinking water and resting, but they don't seem much better this evening than they were this morning. My other nephew (6 years old) is fine.

So, my questions are: Can kids get heat exhaustion the day after being out in the sun? Or does this sound more like they have a flu or a virus?

  • What movies should I get for a family RV trip?

I'm an adult, and I'm going with my parents and grandparents, so any movies are fine. Newer movies would be better. Nothing subtitled, please, as my grandparents would have a hard time with the subtitles! So far on my list: The Lovely Bones, Pirate Radio, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, and A Serious Man.

  • In Neopets is getting free jelly from the giant jelly in Jelly World considered cheating?

  • Christmas present idea help! What to get for my boyfriend's stepfather?

He's about 50 years old, and likes football (Saskatchewan Roughriders, but their store is out of T-shirts) and hockey (but I don't know what team), and he talks about his business (a hardware store) all the time. I really don't know much more about him and my boyfriend seems as much at a loss to get as me! I can't afford to spend more than about $30. Any suggestions?

  • I cooked the chicken to the right temperature, but it's still red inside! How much longer should I cook it for?

I put a whole chicken in the over for a little over one hour. The meat thermometer read that it was the right temperature (about 190 degrees, I think). But when I took it out and started to cut it up, parts of it were still red inside! How much longer should I cook it for?

  • Both myself and a friend applied for a promotion. I got the job. Do I owe her an apology?

Both myself and a friend/coworker applied for the position of Editor-in-Chief at the campus paper where we work. We've worked together for two years. I got the position. Since we found out I got it, she hasn't showed up to the office, she missed a staff meeting and a party this weekend, and I haven't heard from her at all. She also applied for the position last year and didn't get it, so I think she's pretty disappointed. I don't want this to ruin our friendship. Should I call her? Should I apologize? Is there something I should say?

  • What qualifies as a cardio workout?

I know working on the cardio machines at the gym counts, that's obvious, but I was wondering if walking, biking, yoga and fencing count as a cardio workout? Is there a definition of a cardio workout?

  • What kind of Christmas present should I buy for a woman who lives in a small town?

I got my sister-in-law for a gift exchange this year. I'm not sure what to get her. Gift cards don't work because she lives in a village and giving my time to help with chores or babysit doesn't work because I live in the city, about three hours away. I got her earrings last year and I've never seen her wear them. She's 34 years old.

  • Are you an adult that plays Webkinz?

I'm 23, and I play Webkinz. I was wondering if there are any other adults out there, with or without children, who play Webkinz.

Do you feel embarrassed that you play?

    Do you collect the toys?

  • Where is a good place for a vacation in the Caribbean or Central America?

My boyfriend and I are 22 and 23 years old, and trying to plan a vacation for March 2009. He wants sun and beaches, and I want adventure and culture. I would also prefer a place that is not totally swamped with tourists. Any suggestions?

  • Has anyone ever taken a vacation through Sunset Group? Are they reliable?

I was offered a cheap trip to Cancun, Mexico, through Marketing 4 Sunset Group. I bought the vacation, but now I'm not sure I can trust the company.

I have heard they might be a scam, and I have also heard they make you sit for hours every day listening to a sales pitch to buy a time share from them. Are either of these things true?

  • What are the copyright laws regarding using pictures from the internet in a publication?

I work for a campus newspaper, and whenever I can I ask permission from music artists/recording companies to use pictures from their websites, and they often have a 'media' section that I can access. Once in awhile though, they do not have a media section, and I can't get ahold of them. (Especially when dealing with really popular artists.)

What are the copyright laws about taking pictures from, for example, Google Images and using them in my publication?

  • How do I know if my house has fleas?

My boyfriend's co-worker came to work with fleas, and that evening he found flea bites on his arm.

He vacuumed everywhere he went in the house, and washed the clothes he was wearing, and showered a couple times, but woke up in the morning with more flea bites.

I don't have any flea bites! Do we have fleas in our house?
