What's more important in an essay: quality or word count?

I have finished writing my university-level French essay; there's really nothing else I want to say. But our prof asked us to write 2,000 to 2,500 words, not counting quotes. I'm at 1,300 without quotes, 1,500 with quotes. I think it's about as well written as it will get as I had a tutor help with the grammar. In fact, I'm worried if I added those extra 700 words, they would be of poorer quality than the rest of the essay. We got an extension until Monday. So, should I hand it in now or take the weekend to work on it further? Basically, what's more important: quality or word count?

If a teacher tells you what they expect from you, do it.

Both are important, but in this case, the word count.

    You should write more.

To be honest, the quotes don't count in the word count for most classes (I asked my prof, you should ask yours) so your essay is a little TOO short. If you don't reach the required word count, the prof may even deduct marks on it.

since the prof asked specifically for a certain number of words, you should write an essay in that range. However, don't just blab and write a bunch of filler crap, because profs hate that. You can make your essay longer by expanding on ideas, and proving their significance

To be trouble-free, the fees do not count variety interior the be conscious count variety for many instructions (I asked my prof, you will desire to ask yours) so your essay is somewhat TOO short. in case you do not attain the mandatory be conscious count variety, the prof may even deduct marks on it.

You should ask your teacher, but generally both matter.
