I wonder how many Satellites that are pretending to be Communication or weather Satellites are still up there?
During the Cold War, America, USSR, China and others put lots of allegedly Innocent objects into orbit. How many were Armed to the Teeth.
Most of these objects, have no doubt been re-tasked to point outwards
Not just to target asteroids, and , alleged UFO's
But pointing them outwards, solves some issues of accidental launch
How much do we trust our governments of 20 to 30ish years ago?

Most nations that have put satellites up in orbit have launched some military ones, controlled by their own military, rather than civil authorities - these satellites tend to be independent of the non-military side - Military organisations tend not to trust the non-military - you can never be sure of who these civilian chappies are talking to, don't you know? - so the military will only trust the objects that they launched themselves, from their own secure launch sites. As for asteroids and UFOs, these do not currently pose a threat to any terrestrials of any nation.... It is difficult to hide any sizeable launch program... I don't worry overmuch unless the scale of launches increases to a significant degree...
Communication and weather satellites also tend to be controlled by civilian organisations, many of which are multinational, which makes clandestine military involvement difficult...
