If you were Joe Girardi, how would you assemble the lineup for Game 3?
I hate the Yankees, and I know some of you do too. But answer this as a baseball fan question, not a Yankees fan question.
Who would YOU put in the lineup tonight vs Jason Verlander?
Third base: A-Rod or Chavez?
SS: Nix or Núñez?
DH: Chavez or Ibañez?
And who in CF? Granderson or Gardner?
Keep in mind, Verlander is on the mound for Detroit tonight. He's the best ace in the postseason in my opinion, but he's not unbeatable. I say load the lineup with lefties, with batters that have a history of being able to hit off of him.
My lineup would look like this:
1. Ichiro Suzuki (L) LF
2. Robinson Cano (L) 2B
3. Mark Teixeira (S) 1B
4. Eric Chavez (L) DH - 9-for-25 career, 6-for-10 vs Verlander this season
5. Russell Martin (R) C
6. Alex Rodriguez (R) 3B - 4-for-6 with 2 HR vs Verlander this season
7. Brett Gardner (L) CF
8. Nick Swisher (S) RF
9. Eduardo Núñez (R) SS - 1-for-3 career vs Verlander, with a double.

1. Ichiro LF is the only canidate for leadoff besides granderson and Gardner.
2. Granderson CF he has done well in the 2 spot before
3. Teixeria 1B
4. A-Rod 3B
5.chavez DH
6.Cano 2b
7. Swisher RF
8. Martin C
9. Nix SS
Nix over Nunez because he has a better glove and does not give as many errors up.
Chavez or Ibanez better numbers and Ibanez seems to have worked well as a pitch hitter this post season
I still prefer Granderson over Gardner he hasn't played much at all this season and he only had very few at bats though i do like Gardner more and we need him completely healthy for next year.
Arod over chavez at 3B he has great numbers off of Verlander and his 9th inning single in sundays game could provide him with the spark he needs to start hitting.

1. Ichiro
2. Nunez
3. Cano
4. Tex
5. Chavez (DH)
6. A-Rod
7 Swisher
8. Martin
9. Granderson
I really don't like Cano in the #2 spot because he's way too aggressive for a "table-setting" position. I remember in Game 1 when Ichiro got on base late and the Yanks were desperate to get on the board. With one of the team's best base-stealers on 1B, Cano swung wildly at the first pitch...basically negating Ichiro's SB game. Nunez is the only Yankee who isn't trying to hit a home run every AB...and besides Ichiro, the only guy in pinstripes who apparently knows that a "bunt" isn't a type of cake.
I prefer A-Rod at 3B because his glove has not been the problem and the more you keep Chavez's fragile body off the field the better...
I still prefer Grandy's glove in CF and I like having speed in the #9 slot..once the lineup "turns over" it's like having another lead-off man. I think he's way too "pull happy" to be higher in the order.

i wager Girardi has been putting all of his believe in Chan because he knows of that a guy like him has thrived in those tight circumstances earlier. I truthfully ought to trust you in this though. As not undemanding as Chan Ho Park will be, 2010 has not been his perfect marketing campaign and with a guy who's been wearing an era over 6 a lot of this season, it change into obviously a foul flow on Joe's area. yet whats up, he's youthful and youthful managers make blunders.
