Instant heartburn relief suggestions!?
I've had bad heartburn on and off the past few years. Tums and Rolaids do not seem to work anymore. I've taken the generic brands at walmart as well. Nothing seems to work or be continually effective. I don't want to waste money on the expensive pills, so please a few suggestions or feedback would be much appreciated!

Without being a Dr. I cannot accurately tell you what is wrong. long term heartburn is generally caused by an over production of gastric juices (acid). Tums absorbs these for fast relief. The over the counter Omeprozole (prilosec) is a medication that reduces the production of these acids. It is not unusual to take these for a long time. (years), I take them almost nightly, it is not an instant fix like tums. It takes time to slow down the production of acids and Omeprozole is sold in 14 day and 28 day boxes. The store brand is much cheaper than the name brand and is just as effective. If after trying this you don't get better maybe you need to see your dr. to make sure its not just acid production that's wrong. Good luck,

Oh i really feel for you as i suffered very badly from heartburn. I found the nights were the worst so i wouldn't eat anything rich before bed and i would take 2 big spoonfuls of gaviscon and a few rennies. I then kept the bottle of gaviscon next to my bed for in the middle of the night when i would get a bad attack. I am sorry to say but i never did find anything to relieve it entirely but on a plus note the heartburn disappeared as soon as i gave birth. (i know that won't seem much help though)! Do avoid spicy or rich foods and garlic foods. I have heard milk can help but i am lactose intolerant so i wouldn't know!

This is a natural program that you can try to cure your acid reflux http://acidreflux.toptips.org/
Acid reflux disease, also known as gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), occurs due to the coexistence of several medical and lifestyle conditions. Physiological factors that trigger GERD include lower esophageal sphincter (LES) hypotonia (the gradual weakening of the LES), along with retrograde flow of stomach contents into the esophagus, and the level of sensitivity of the esophageal mucus to the reflux content.
