freaking over antibiotic?
Metronidazole. You cannot drink alcohol for a couple of days after and during the course. I'm an alcoholic. I've taken two; as prescribed, and I"m on my second drink. I don't care if I throw up. But I can't quit drinking cold turkey and I have to take these pills for an infection. Consuming alcohol with this is cramping, nausea, throwing up and facial redness (which could mean broken capillaries) low blood pressure, which I already have, and speeding heart rate.
I know: DONT DRINK!!!!!!!!
Easy. But it's not. Quitting alcohol all of a sudden could be a seizure and all sorts of things. (ever been through withdrawal?)
Is there anyone who knows if the hype over alcohol and this med is as bad as claimed?
(yes, I know, alcohol with any med is BAD. And I know everyone reacts differently, but I'm freakin out)

tell the dr to fit you in because of your heart racing and you can talk about changing antibiotic then. just be honest.
stay home from work and don't hesitate about going to the ER if the dr. won't fit you in.
call your local Walgreen's 24 hour pharmacy right now and ask which antibiotic they would recommend for your situation. they won't be busy at this time of morning, so they should have time to give you the best option because different types of antibiotics are used for different types of bacteria. you don't have to be a customer to call.
it's not hype about meds and alcohol, but what you might not have read about is that some meds can work in a way that people can die from alcohol poisoning even if they are not drinking anymore than usual. because the med makes the alcohol 'work better' for you.
dude,be careful.
it's important to get rid of the infection. and having your heart race is a serious condition. please don't be casual or dismissive of that important symptom. don't worry about mentioning that you drink,dr's want you to get better. if you get a lecture, try to understand that the doc is worried about you.
