Blogging - Hey can someone give me any blogging advice?

I ran a successful travel blog for 6 years. It wasn't to make money, but I used it to distribute free content and publicise my other sites.

It was one of the first sites to use the KML protocol when that came in, and I used to use that to map all my movements around the world.

Geoblogging they call it.

To make a successful blog you've got to do a number of things.

I'll try to put them in order of importance.

1) Post regularly. Doesn't matter how many readers you've got. If your doing less than 3 posts a week, people ain't gonna come back.

2) Mix your content up. People won't read a wall of text. They'll simply click off and go somewhere else. This is the world we live in. Break that text up with pictures, videos. Use formatting to the max to emphasise those points which make your article interesting.

3) Invite other people to blog for you.

4) Never pay for anything. This is a blog. Don't expect to make money from it.

5) Get some authority links.

6) Offer free things.

7) Provide value links. Do your research and pass on those backlinks.

8) Use social media.

9) Stay up to date with technology. Use new media and publishing protocols.

10) Try and find a USP.

Most importantly, try and be yourself.

I agree with what the other answer said and have to say what a great answer but he is wrong about not being able to make money with blogging. That is false, because you can! I normally mix it up with my blogging! For example one day you will see me writing about something business related then the next day it's something personal and the third day it might be something inspirational..something to give people hope. Just remember to have value, be entertaining and informative. That right there is so important! It's what keeps getting people to come back and look at your newest blogs. You also want to make the blog appealing to everyone. Make sure you add pictures and videos! Hope that helps you and wish you all the best!
