How hard is Mandarin if you're a Vietnamese native speaker?
I have to take a language in University and I'm thinking about taking Mandarin since it has a lot of similar things about it like Vietnamese would. I heard most English speakers have the most trouble with the tones and grammar but I can hear the tones just fine through Youtube videos. So how is learning Mandarin been for you?

There are many similarities between Mandarin and Vietnamese. They both are mono-syllabic and use tones. Vietnamese has six tones, two more than Mandarin. They both have loose structure unlike Spanish, French ... meaning the sentences don't necessarily fall into the subject+verb+object format. They both don't have verb conjugation. The only problem you will have is the writing and reading the characters. The Chinese language has pin-yin (alphabetization) but to advance you must go beyond pin-yin. Good luck.
