Why does my laptop shut down after a few minutes?
I have a Dell inspiron N5010 that will shut down after just a few minutes of turning on. I have checked the hardware diagnostics and the troubleshooter, removed and reinstalled the ram, taken the battery out and tried using just the power cord. Im at a loss at this point. The computer works great for a few minutes and then Black Screen.......when I restart it it turns on and then turns off again within a few minutes. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys/gals.

Get a laptop cooler with a USB power connection and use it. If it helps - then the laptop is overheating.
Fixing it may involve a can of compressed air to clean out the vents & fan (increased air flow cools faster) or it may involve a trip to the repair center if the fan needs replacing or the heat sink paste has dried out & is no longer working well.
Source(s): We had a laptop five years ago that kept doing this - turned out that the heat sink had not been well designed - we more or less kept it on a cooling pad the rest of the time that we owned it - 100% of the time that it was on. - SaraLv 79 years ago
I agree with Austin. Your computer is trying to save itself by shutting down. It is overheating. When you turn it on - stick your hand to the back (left corner on mine) and see if you can feel air movement - if you can't - you need a new fan or something. You may be able to buy an external fan that you can attach to the laptop - but take it to a shop or something.

it seems like your computers fan is not turning on and it is getting to hot and shutting its self off.
