Should I go ahead with getting a IUD? And if so ParaGard or Mirena?

Well I finally got a chance to discuss changing my birth control method with my doctor. And after sharing all the side effects I have with the pill (,Sever mood changes ,depression, weight gain, irregular periods) My doctor suggested an IUD due to little to no hormanal side effects. However after a few google searches I am not really sure anymore. Plus I am only 21 and have never had a child yet . However upon reviewing other methods, I don't really know what would be the best option for me and I sure as hell don't want those little monsters runing around my house yet. lol

I'm the same age with no children and I've had the Mirena for about five months and it's awesome. It's so nice not to have to remember the pill and not to be so jacked up on so much hormones.

The reason why I chose Mirena is because the way a copper IUD would work is that once every month it irritates the lining of the uterus and it will cause an egg (if one was fertilized) to fall off of the lining. Don't get me wrong, I am completely pro-choice, but that whole scenario really bothered me, it's like an abortion every month.

The Mirena isn't the best feeling during the procedure, especially when you have not had any children because the cervix is not stretchy. But after a 20 min procedure and about a week of unpleasant cramps you're good to go for five years. Did I mention you have a chance at having absolutely no periods at all after a year?

I know that some people on the internet are going crazy about how they had to get it taken out and it's the worst thing they've ever experienced, I know its a turn off but this is a small percent of people who had these bad side effects. Just check out the Mirena website, they are very helpful :)

I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions feel free to message me! I am more than happy to introduce people to this marvelous world of IUD's!

I had an IUD pre-baby, and it was fine. Its important choose a doc who has a lot of experience in inserting them, but it really wasn't a big deal. Everybody I know who had a bad time with insertion went to a doctor who doesn't really focus on the IUD. I used the Paragard, but I didn't have problematic periods... the Mirena is supposedly better at reducing your periods and making them less painful due to its hormones.

Remember, whenever you search on the internet, you are going to get more horror stories than anything else. That's because "Yes, I went on the IUD and didn't get pregnant until it was out" is not a good story. "I went on the IUD and it migrated up to my brain and now I can only speak french" is a *very* good story:)

Mirena uses hormones, just like the pill does. But Paragard uses copper instead of hormones. It is 100% hormone free.

nicely if pap smears make u cry then ya that's gonna harm. U cramp up bc they placed it on your cervix. It def does not experience stable. notwithstanding it does not final long. I had mirena and hated it. I bled for about 3 months promptly and then sessions we are atypical and intensely heavy. Ya, no longer a fan.
