How many US Presidents were not Protestant?

I can only think of three:

- Jefferson (a deist)

- Lincoln (did not belong to any church)

- Kennedy (a Roman Catholic)

Any more?

Most of our early Presidents were deists, though some belonged to a church for other reasons. Prior to the revolution, Washington belonged to the Church of England when he entered colonial politics because it was a requirement to enter the political field. After the revolution, when the Church of England became the Episcopalian Church, his wife continued to go but he typically did not go to church and would sometimes only accompany his wife to be with her. He never took communion, and was considered by those who knew him, including his ministers, to be a deist. Ulysses S. Grant was most likely atheist, or possibly a deist, although his wife was religious. On his deathbed he refused prayers and any religious ceremony, stating that he believed it enough to have lived a "good and honorable life." This, of course, enraged the minister his wife had called to his side who then publicly denounced Grant and basically said that living a "good and honorable life" was not enough. In the mid-19th century, it was a common complaint from ministers, pastors, and priests to say that we had never had a Christian President from Washington to Lincoln and that, at best, some of them were deists. There is a famous newspaper article written by a minister which says almost exactly that (sorry I can't remember his name and I'm too tired to look for it). Anyway, most of our Presidents from Washington to Grant were probably either deists or only vaguely religious, although it can sometimes be hard to tell exactly what each man believed. Personally, I think President Obama is no more religious than Washington or Lincoln but that is only my opinion. I guess the answer to "how many" would depend on how religious or observant one would have to be to be called a "Protestant."

a million. If fifty one.3% of people are Protestants, then in all threat on the brink of fifty one.3% of yank voters are Protestants. this is adequate to get somebody elected. although, maximum human beings do not evaluate faith a qualification for the presidency. 2. No, there have been no Catholic presidents in U.S. history besides JFK. Josie: There weren't any. The question replaced into: "have been there any Catholic presidents besides JFK?" My answer replaced into "No", as in "No, there have been no others besides JFK." i've got clarified it now.
