For those who saw the promo for next weeks episode I think I know who Dr. Whale is, Victor Frankenstein.

Yes, it fits with the clues they gave in an online game about him:

~ Inflated sense of self- in the original story Victor has a big ego.

~Classic "god complex"-Victor brings things to life.

~Frames himself as victor in all conflicts-"Victor" and he never took the Monster's threats seriously in the original story.

~Feels persecuted and misunderstood -- paranoid?-Victor thinks experimenting on the dead is alright thin to do, and does not get why his Monster will not stop hinting him in the original story.

Some people are saying he's Frankenstein. It looks like that could be true based on the preview of next week's episode, but here's something I found on Tumblr:

"Doctor Whale is totally Sir Gawain of King Arthur’s Round Table.

    1. He’s a womanizer, which is one characterization of Gawain.

    2. He’s chivalrous. He may have had a one night stand with Mary Margaret, but he still sent her flowers.

    3. Super loyal! “You are not my prince!” angry angry because King Arthur’s his king!

    4. Sir Gawain has knowledge of herbs that makes him a good healer… Doctor?

    5. Its a Welsh story. From WALES."

That's what it looked like! I was hoping he'd be like Hercules or something but Frankensteins creator looks to be it.
