I am wondering if caffeine could be the culprit of this double loss?
I've heard caffeine in high amounts can increase chance of misscarriage. I worked with a woman who was very tiny and slightly under weight. She had a habit of drinking 3 or 4 extra strength 5hr energy shots a day during an 8hr shift on top of a rockstar energy drink. Plus around half a pack of cigarettes. She found out she was pregnant with twins and still kept up this same routine. At 4 1/2 months she had a visible bump and seemed to be doimg fine. She ended up miscarrying that week and nearly died. Could high caffeine intake be a possible culprit in this situation? She's had two healthy pregnancies before hand and told me she hasnt had a miscarriage previously. Just wonderin'! :)

You could never know for sure, but in my opinion, it's likely. Both caffiene and smoking are very unhealthy to an unborn baby, especially when you're carrying multiples because it's much harder on your body. That amount of caffiene is dangerous for someone who isn't pregnant, let alone carrying two precious packages. Not that I'm judging those that do, but all three of my pregnancies, I stayed away from caffiene and second hand smoke. Being underweight didn't help the matter either. My thoughts go out to your friend!

no. Not by that stage. In the first month or 2 it could be a contributing factor, but not by 18 weeks. Twins are often more difficult pregnancies and there is a fair bit that can go wrong.

YES, and the older you get the more likely it is. The older you are then the more she should try to take care of the baby's because they were getting less nutrition from mommy and also she was having TWINS! you need to be even extra careful because they need even more nutrition and are more likely to miscarriage......can't believe this woman would smoke while pregnant and drink so much caffeine! poor little babies :(

It might have been from the enery drink. Theres a warning on energy drink bottles that say do not drink if pregnant or breastfeeding
