How Can I Politely Talk About Money With Friends?

My best friend has a very bad habit of asking the price of things I buy. It irritates me a lot. I am a little private person where my personal expenditures or money is concerned. But I have generally seen people hitting on me with money related questions. I don't understand why. The thing that pinches me most is when my best friend or usually people in general ask me "How much do you earn?" I mean this is something very personal. Why do they bother about your bank balance or salary? I just feel like saying back "Dude, don't worry about that. Mind your own business" But I'm not that blunt. It may hurt them or spoil my relations. So how can I politely handle this situation without sounding to be rude?

I'd say something like, "Gee, are we going to starting talking about my sex life next?" and then chuckle.

It's perfectly fine to just be blunt and directly say, "Listen, I really don't discuss money with anyone, even my own mother, so if you don't mind, I'd prefer not to discuss the cost of my purchases. If you'd like to also buy one, I got it at Good Trade Pawn. (or wherever)

And then, change the subject. People who are worth keeping as friends, won't keep pushing it.

To avoid such incidents, just tell them that you didn't purchase the things. you can tell them that your brother or family friend has gifted you and you don't know about the price. this way they can't ask you about the price again and you will also not get hurt with such questions.

    hope this will help...!
