traveling from Dublin to Galway, what to see?

I'd love to see ruined castles and small villages that scream Ireland. I've heard there are some amazing ruined castles all over, are there any near Dublin, Galway, or inbetween? Anything I MUST see or do? Cheers!

Unfortunatly for you , you have to drive through the blandest part of the country , though there is loads of ruins and stuff like that , there is not much scenary , though things change dramatically once you drive west north south of Galway city your coming from the plain east lol ..

Yes, there are loads of them. Unfortunately you can't hop off the motorway very easily to get to them, so you'd need to plan your route - make sure your GPS is updated. Do a google search on castles in the Irish midlands, and find out where they are exactly, and see if they are included on your GPS. If they are close to any towns or villages, locals can direct you to them once you are off the motorway.

Also, many castle ruins are on private land, and you cannot just enter on a whim. Ireland is agricultural and there may be animals in those fields, and possibly crops. If you must enter the field to see the castle, go to the nearest house, find out where owner of the field is, and ASK FIRST. If you do not ask first, you could be done for trespassing, and if anything were to happen to you - like you got chased and gored by a bull, which is not unheard of - then the owner of the field would not be liable. ASK FIRST.

It could also be the case that the castle you want to see is actually dangerous to enter. Some of them are a thousand years old, so the masonry can be a bit dodgy. So in addition to asking first, DON'T ignore warning signs.

Otherwise, have a pleasant trip to Ireland.

Source(s): I live in Ireland. Incidentally, there are two ruined castles within 2 miles of my house, but I don't think you can enter either of them. And a ringfort across the road ... one of many in the area. But I'm miles out of your way. Sorry.

GALWAY! Dublin replaced right into a brilliant Irish city years in the past yet its so eu now, i replaced into the only Irish guy in a bar there a whilst lower back, even the staff have been american i think of, and every physique else travelers, a lager now fee like £6, Its costly, make no mistake! Galway is west coast, greater comfortable, greater traditionally Irish and extremely eye-catching. Ryanair would desire to get u from Stanstead to Dub, Aer Areann to Galway from some London airports, unsure which?, or easyJet direct from Gatwick to Belfast worldwide, practice/bus from there on down...:-) relish yorself!!!
