Atheists: Does the fact that everyone apart from you believes in God or gods count as evidence against your?

contrary position?

Does this "fallacy" trump the "fallacy of knowing" which you hold so dear?

Please frame your answer within the context of God or gods being outside the realm of the physical universe.

Update:

Narathzul. Perhaps I should have added the fallacy of not understanding the question just for you!!

Update 2:

Paulus - I would give you BA right now, but it is too soon!! WTG though :-)

Fallacy of popularity as opposed to fallacy of knowing.

In the context of spirituality, the majority wins.

"What is popular is not always right" is of course the case. History is replete with examples.

But for a concept outside of the realm of the scientifically testable, we have to turn to the universal experience of man.

Argumentum ad populum is still a logical fallacy.

I've noticed that God has moved further and further away from earthly reality as more people start to ask why there's no evidence of him. The God of the Bible walked in the garden, chatted with Adam and Eve, showed his hind parts to Moses, gave the priests specific instructions for everything, and was quite obviously present in the earthly realm. Now, all of a sudden, we're supposed to believe that the lack of physical evidence for a god is due to the "fact" that he's outside the realm of the physical universe. When did this move take place? And how can an entity that exists outside the physical universe have any effect on the physical universe? Don't claim that a god that is not part of the physical universe can control everything that happens within that universe. Reality doesn't work that way.

Anti atheism is doing so much damage to Christianity that it is in reality anti Christianity – David Manley

It takes in reality only one to make a quarrel. It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion. - William Ralph Inge.

Why so blind to what causes the backlash against christianity?

ALL the other religions and atheists live in peace and are ONLY attacked by BAD christians which causes all GOOD christians to despair at the damage they do!

Up until about 40 years back Christianity was thriving and there was no conflict with others but in just those few short years the modern christians have become intolerant, hate filled, bigoted and persecuting resulting in a growing backlash against christianity and causing christianity to loose over ten percent in less than a decade with the loss accelerating!

The self destruction of Christianity is underway and the only thing that can stop it is to abandon the terrible human emotions, seek to rediscover the idea of a loving god and act like it!

Posts like yours that drive people further away from God are driving you towards hell.

So who are you working for the devil or the antichrist because it sure ain't the loving god!

"Atheists: Does the fact that everyone apart from you believes in God or gods count as evidence against your contrary position?"

That is not even true, if by "God" you mean the god of Christianity, Islam and Judaism (if they can even be called the same god). Some theists believe in other gods entirely, which are incompatible with yours. This would seem to indicate that faith is not a good way to determine truth, even if what we are considering does lie outside physical reality.

It's possible that others really have experienced a God or gods that exist in an incomprehensible way that interact with their minds, which leads to widespread belief in personal gods. But this is much more easily explained as a mental and cultural phenomenon.

Edit: Paulus's answer is fraught. Even if there exist beings as you propose, man's experience is hardly universal, nor is it a reliable indicator of anything concerning such beings. However, I'm less interested in being right than I am in understanding your reasoning, why you reject ours and accept his. Can it be called reasoning, or is it bias on your part?

Neither. It would not influence the validity of His existence in any respect. although, Paul does factor out that state of affairs in his letter to the Colossians (sorry, no scripture reference extra perfect than that). He stated that it did not count number because pretend motives nonetheless presented new believers. honestly, i'm drained, so the verse may be from between the Corinthians. i'm very sorry for not understanding the verse. I in reality discovered it the former day at the same time as someone revealed it the following

As much as the fact many people believe in different gods counts as evidence that all these gods are real.

If we're on about god's being outside the realm of the physical universe, how would we have ever communicated with them or observed them? If such god/s took on the form of something in our universe, how would we know it wasn't just something that was in our universe, and not a god?

If everyone apart from me believes in a god, then why would you use "Atheists" in the plural form? If I'm supposedly the only atheist in the world, then wouldn't it be singular? I know plenty of others atheists, and many of the theists I know are highly confused about what they believe in. Am I supposed to be like them? It's not my style to jump on bandwagons, I hate crowds.

No, it's inherent in the definition of atheism.

Everybody apart from atheists = theists = people who believe in gods.

Do the quotes imply you think appeal to popularity fallacy is not in fact a fallacy?

And doesn't the fact that all these people believe in wildly different gods tell you something is off?

Source(s): No, of course not, because you the god you believe in is "real".
