Hitting the gym for the first time?

I'm 20 (not overweight) and I've never done much exercise aside from walking everywhere.I've decided to hit the gym and start on a healthier life.Any tips? (exercises to do, pace,etc) Any help would be appreciated!

    Knowledge is power!

    Firstly read something like Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe

    Then read Jason Ferruggia's books (3XM Muscle or Muscle Gaining Secrets)

    Also check out Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 program.
