Why don't some people eat meat on Fridays?

I have heard the statement but since it is not my culture I have Always wondered why. Please be appropriate & do not spam. Thank You

    friday is tipically for eating fish but is nothing you are forced to do. In holy friday is forbidden to eat red meat. Only fish and sea food is allowed.

    Catholics formerly didn't. I suppose some really traditional Catholics still don't. And it's also been a tradition in Judaism to serve fish as the first course on Friday. (For both, "Friday is fish".)
