Has anyone here ever donated a liver(half of one)?
I'm being tested and considered as a partial liver donor for my mother. I was wondering if anyone on here has gone through that experience. Was it painful, were there complications, was it really worth it? Looking for some detailed experiences. Thanks.

I never donated, but I have had a liver transplant. You must be going through the evaluation process to make sure you are healthy enough and a match for your mother. Is it worth it? Well, if it keeps your mother alive, then you can answer that question yourself. It is a very serious surgery and the doctors should be explaining everything to you when you get evaluated. My liver transplant put me in the hospital for over 2 months so yes, it can be very serious and also have complications. The donor has to be in excellent health so you should be in better shape than the person receiving the transplant since the recipient like me is usually very ill with liver failure when they get the surgery done. When you see the doctor or doctors who are going to do this surgery, you should ask them any questions you have. Write them down ahead of time so you don't forget anything. The life of the donor comes first above everything else for this surgery. I would do it for my mother without question if if would save her life.
