I'm a Christ follower.

  • Has anyone here ever donated a liver(half of one)?

I'm being tested and considered as a partial liver donor for my mother. I was wondering if anyone on here has gone through that experience. Was it painful, were there complications, was it really worth it? Looking for some detailed experiences. Thanks.

  • Have you ever had nothing to say when someone tells you a loved one has died?

I totally drew a blank when this guy I'm acquainted with said his wife died. I was at a loss for words. Now I feel like a jerk.

  • Atheists: How would you feel if Christians just simply ignored you...?

As opposed to verbal sparring. Do you enjoy having someone to disagree with?

  • Atheists: A hypothetical for you...?

Lets say you're turning on a busy intersection with a loved one in the car and all of a sudden you are blind sided. Next thing you know EM T's and firefighters are pulling you out of the vehicle and you see your loved one on the ground with a white sheet draped over them. You realize that they've been pronounced dead. Then you see someone come over to them and lay their hands on them and begin to pray. All of a sudden, the person sits up and all of the professionals rush over to give them medical attention. The man/woman who prayed walks off never to be seen again. Later when you talk to that loved one they tell you that the only thing they heard come out of the person's mouth was the name of Jesus. Do you buy it? Do you completely dismiss it? Do you want to believe? How do you think you would respond in such a situation?

p.s.: stories like this have been recorded. I myself have heard two people testify to such situations

  • Atheists: Do you tend to associate Christians with right-wing republicans?

If so, should Christians assume that you are left-wing liberals?

  • Christians: Is it hard for you not to fail?

I've been a Christian for almost 9 years now and I would have to say that I fail more often then I succeed at truly being a surrendered follower of Christ. I know who He is. I trust in Him alone. I have encountered His power and presence in my on many occasions. Yet, I always seem to fall back into the same habitual sins. My attempts to cooperate with grace have availed me nothing. Yet, I also know that any failure or sin is my responsibility. I bring it before God and ask for forgiveness yet I feel as though I am not truly repenting because I once again return to the very same vomit I asked forgiveness for before. I do not see the fruits of repentance. I echo the sentiments of Paul, 'O wretched man that I am.' I am a goat. A tare. Jesus is still my hope. My only hope. Can anyone relate? Has anyone gone through a similar period and came out to live a victorious Christian life? Please share.

Atheists: No disrespect, but I don't really care for your opinions on the matter. Thanks.

  • Have any of the atheists here...?

...actually experienced the presence of God in your life at one point, but decided later in life that it was actually something else? If so, what was it? I find that Christianity is dismissible for most in this age, but the manifestation of Holy Spirit in a believers life is a hard thing to discredit when it is a personal experience. Just wondering if any of you have been there done that.

  • Atheism vs Christianity?

    Here's an interesting contrast:

    Survival of the fittest

    or

"No greater love has one than this, that one would lay their life down for their friends."

Now, I understand the first is a scientific observation that is linked to Evolutionary theory, but which is truly more dignifying to the human soul (or mind)??

  • Toyota Corolla trunk problem?

I own a 2003 Toyota Corolla. I went to open the trunk the other night and after I turned the key I could not budge the lock. It is stuck in the unlock position, but my trunk won't open. I tried to pull the lever inside the car to unlock it, but that doesn't work either. I'm not sure if I can get the back seats down without going through the trunk. Any suggestions?? I'd like to avoid the body shop if possible

  • Atheists: Have you ever stopped to consider?

All of you say that the major problem with believing in God is a lack of evidence. I would disagree. I would say the biggest reason is because of your interpretation of the evidence. Stop and consider this, you are the evidence. Everything you see and touch and taste is the evidence. Why do we have hands? Why do birds have wings? Such thoughts bring one to the conclusion that everything that exists serves some kind of purpose that is beneficial to life. What do you think the odds are that all of this could occur by random chance (or by an evolutionary process that was completely unguided)?? The evidence is there, you just refuse to acknowledge it in any other way than you already do.

  • What kind of Beer should I get tonight?

I'm a bit of a beer snob, so if you give me some american standard Commercial beer you'll be getting thumbs down. I'm looking for something hoppy without a terribly high ABV%. Any ideas, looking to try something new. Already had Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Hop Devil.

  • Strange looking (Marijuana-like) plant growing in my yard?

I have a plant growing in my yard that is five-pointed, yet the leaves are a little wider than your standard marijuana leaf. The plant now has flowering buds that do also have some similar features to cannabis. There are white and yellow hairs and white crystal on them, but the color is more of a light purple than green. Never seen a plant like it, except for weed. Anyone know what this is? I also live in south-eastern Pennsylvania if the geographical location will help you any.

  • Can one be completely satisfied in this life?

First off, I must state that I am a believer in Christ and my life has been made rich because of that. Everything I have, a wife, son, job, friends, is because of Him. Yet there is still a sense of longing for something more. My soul is never completely satisfied. I become restless often and desire more than the rut I find myself in. I was reviewing a prayer recently and part of it makes this statement:

"...surrendering to your (God) will. That I may be *reasonably happy in this life*; and supremely happy with you in the next."

In light of this I got to thinking that we will always be longing for something more in this life. We can never really be completely satisfied indefinitely (we can be for a short time, but it passes). Does this ring true for you or am I off?

*Atheists, feel free to post, but I will not consider any God bashing or witty trash talk. It's a serious question, I would prefer that you take it seriously.

  • What say you of this quote?

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other.

  • American Atheists: Don't you think you own Christianity some gratitude in forming your values?

There can be no denying that Christianity is interwoven into the very fabric of the American society. Putting family first (platonic marriage, influenced by Martin Luther), loving your neighbor as yourself, going out of your way to help others, condemning unrighteous actions (such as rape and murder), the desire for peace and prosperity. Although there are other influences (besides just Christianity) involved in these areas, they do make up some of even atheistic values I have seen on this site. Are you afraid to give Christianity any credit for producing good in this society? If so, what does atheism contribute? I hear it mentioned frequently that atheists consider themselves "free thinkers," yet you have fundamental beliefs that you adhere to without full knowledge of the truth. So it is apparent to me that your idea of "free thinking" is either an illusion that makes you feel more comfortable with what you believe or "free thinker" can apply to anyone. Back to my original point, what moral values can come from Atheism? The answer is nothing. Atheism has to borrow from the value system of culture, which our culture has been influenced by Christianity, therefore you have borrowed certain Christian values, much to your own dismay I'm sure. You should be greatful. Are you?
