Transcription is process where various types of RNAs are made from DNA or in another words.

The process of formation of various RNAs from DNA is called transcription.

There are mainly three types of RNAs

    1. mRNA

    2. rRNA

    3. tRNA

All these RNAs are formed from DNA. Just formation of RNAs from DNA is called transcription.

When DNA transcribes onto RNA, it means the DNA is copying parts of the genetic information it carries "onto" the RNA, so that the RNA can carry it out of the nucleus.

Think of DNA like a reference book at the library. You can copy stuff out of it, but you're not allowed to take it out, because it's too important.
