torque wrench question?

Never thought about this until today... Why does a ratcheting torque wrench have a reverse?

I could only think of 2 possible answers:

1) so you could attempt to determine the torque when removing a fastener.

2) so you can "knock" a socket loose if it gets jammed on the head of a fastener.

Not all threads are right handed, there are left handed threads too. Propane tanks use left handed threads

You don't really want to use a torque wrench to remove a jammed nut, and I've never heard of using a torque wrench to determine the torque needed to remove a nut.
