Will taking Fish Oil Pills and Garlic Pills lower my blood pressure and cholesterol?
I discovered I have high blood pressure, stage 2 hypertension to be exact. And I want to lower that and my cholesterol without taking prescription pills. I heard it makes you dizzy and gives you headaches. I'm now taking 5,000 mcg's of garlic pills, and 1,080 mg's of fish oil pills. Will this drastically lower my blood pressure and cholesterol? I would appreciate any help from somebody who knows what they are talking about, thanks.

The fish oil may lower your triglycerides. A radical lifestyle change involving major changes to diet AND exercise will do miracles, though. There's a reason why doctors usually prescribe lifestyle changes before meds.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

These are some good things to supplement. I don't understand the 1080 mg fish oil. I take 4 grams. These are good but try to eat more fibers, especially oatmeal, fruits, vegetables as they also can lower the cholesterol levels.Try this before taking statins, like Liptor.
Exercise three times a week. Also red rice bran yeast can help.
Good luck.

I gave mcdbb's answer a thumbs up. However, in my professional experience, most medical doctors just reach for the prescription pad, and rarely work with the patient on serious lifestyle changes.
It is important to determine the CAUSE of your hypertension. There are many common causes of hypertension. Treating the cause is a much better approach than using expensive and dangerous drugs to manipulate physiology to lower blood pressure.
If you want to start educating yourself on the issue of hypertension, I highly recommend a book by Mark Houston, M.D. called "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Hypertension..." (available at Amazon.com). Dr. Houston is a professor of medicine at Vanderbilt medical school and the director of a hypertension institute. He has also published 25 papers in the scientific literature - see links below to a few of them.
