Fitness preparation for Ranger school?

My dream is becoming a Ranger and I know i have to work hard to earn it. My question is :"how can I prepare physically for the school which I will be in within 4 years??" I think 4 years is enough.

First off, (Kylie you better read this too because I'm inclined to believe that you don't know this either), Ranger School is NOT the program for joining the 75th Ranger Regiment. The Ranger Assessment & Selection Program, an 8-week course taken entirely at Fort Benning fulfills the role of being a selection & introductory training course. Ranger School is a small unit leadership course that is open to members of all branches of the military, although the Army makes up the vast majority of attendees.

The washout rate for RASP1 is about 70%, with an additional 1 out of 4 graduates being kicked

out after they arrive at their assigned battalion for not meeting/maintaining the standard, bringing the total attrition rate between 75 and 80%.

Enlisted Rangers will typically not attend Ranger School until they've already been in the 75th Ranger Regiment for about a year, at which point graduating Ranger School is a requirement to remain in the Regiment. It is also a prerequisite for Officers and enlisted soldiers that are already serving in Big Army to transfer into the 75th Ranger Regiment.

The washout rate for Ranger School is about 60%, though it fluctuates as low as 45% and as high as 70%. Over the last decade, it has been increasing.

You can find the minimum requirements for passing the RPFT online. Aim much higher than the minimum, or you're not going to make it through week one of either course. As long as you aren't afflicted by a medical condition, 4 years should be plenty of time to max the APFT and exceed the RPFT requirements.

Source(s): RPFT: http://www.military.com/military-fitness/army-spec... "Sua Sponte" by Dick Couch gives the best synopsis of the Army Ranger training, including both RASP1 and Ranger School, as well as RASP2, and a pre-deployment build-up. Most bookstores with a military literature section should have it.

The U.S army Ranger school is one of the toughest Training Programs in the army. It's a 61 day intense Training program designed to make you both mentally and physically tough the ranger Program has many dropouts (not sure of exact number) you are usally awake running drills for 20+ hours at a time you get very little sleep and only eat the caloric limit every day. Even though you will become fit training for the army.It will help to already be in good shape because in ranger school you will be competing with the other students. My recommendation to you would be to start working out more and to attempt to prepare yourself to be mentally tough because in ranger school you will be working in simulated hostile environments while exhausted. After you finish assuming you graduate it will all be worth it because you get the all important ranger patch. it going to be a tough road ahead but have faith in yourself and your fellow soldiers (teamwork is a huge part of it) and im sure you will succed. the most important pre-training exercise to do prior to Ranger school is walking fast in your boots with 50 pounds of weight on your back. You will do this everyday you are at Ranger School. Running at least 5 miles, 3-4 times a week and swimming in uniform 2-3 times a week is recommended as well. Pack on 5-10 pounds of body weight prior to going so you have a little to lose when you are consuming fewer calories a day.Good luck - Future U.S Army ranger
