The democrat party has always embraced progressive Teddy Roosevelt’s “New Nationalism.”

In a speech on August 31, 1910 in Osawatomie, Kansas TR laid out his agenda for a welfare-state, including:

-A National Health Service

-Social insurance, to provide for the elderly, the unemployed, and the disabled

-Limited injunctions in strikes (unions have always been a privileged class in welfare/socialist states)

-Federal income tax

-An inheritance tax

As to how his agenda would affect our Constitution? He couldn’t have cared less:

”This, I know, implies a policy of a far more active governmental interference with social and economic conditions in this country than we have yet had, but I think we have got to face the fact that such an increase in governmental control is now necessary.”

Democrat President Wilson (1913-1918) said, “You are not here merely to make a living. You are here to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, and with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world. You impoverish yourself if you forget this errand.” He may have been the first democrat to appreciate the potential use of multiculturalism (“If it’s white or American, trash it!”) in deconstructing the Constitution, saying, “No nation is fit to sit in judgment upon any other nation.” Obama put it this way: “Every nation is exceptional in its own way.”

Democrat President Roosevelt “let it all hang out” in his speech before Congress on January 11, 1944:

“We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights...” [which included] the right: to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation; of every family to a decent home; to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health; to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment.

[Of course, democrats rarely credit our semi-capitalist Constitutional economic system with doing a pretty da%n&* good job of achieving those goals. Until their utopian CHANGE is achieved they’ll never be satisfied]

It is only because of the Internet, talk radio and Fox News (all non-existent a generation ago!) that we are learning the truth about the democrat party and how effective it has been in replacing our Constitution with its welfare state model:

The health care reforms are not about providing new doctors. Are you suggesting that the government should nationalize medical schools?

The reforms are designed to remove the unfair restrictions laid on consumers by the insurers, who were collecting payments for years and then disallowing valid claims on the grounds that the illness was a concealed "pre existing condition". For example, one of my patients when I practiced in my native Maryland was disallowed because her adult onset diabetes was supposedly pre existing.

If that is the case fully thirty percent of Americans will be cut off when their genetic time bombs go off, after making payments to the HMOs for years. That is just not right.

I worked as an ER physician. There were too many patients turned away before they even saw me because they were not covered. I fully support these reforms and believe they did not go far enough.

But to go back to my original point, training doctors has never been the reponsibility of our government and it is simply not a relevant argument against Obamacare. Further, according to Republican doctrine, if we create a demand with mandatory coverage the market will naturally provide the service.

You can't have it both ways.

By the way, the Cuban government does train doctors. I have worked with a couple while I volunteered with Physicians Without Borders, and they are pretty good, but I suspect you would oppose the Cuban system here. Once again, you can't have it both ways.

What does health INSURANCE coverage have to do with the number of doctors? NOTHING.

Would you expect an insurance company that increases the number of folks it covers to then train new doctors?

How many more doctors did Romney add when he introduced Romneycare you Massachusetts?

It's tax. That's what the Supreme Court said and they were right. It has very little to do with health care and everything to do with money.
