James Harden signs extension with Rockets?
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8577246/james-ha...
So he will sign a 5 year 80 Million for a team that won't make the playoffs, but he will not sign a 52 million over 4 years for being on a team that will compete for a title. Its a 2 Million difference over 4 years, its not that much compared to what you would still get. That just goes to show the Players play for Money not for the love of the game, or even winning. Then he will complain about them not winning after a year or so, and will want to leave. It has happened a lot.

This is about 3 million dollar a year stand alone and 28 million dollars difference in the life of the contract.
The problem with your assessment is that Westbrook and Durant and Ibaka got paid their worth, actually they probably did not get market value but they did get paid, Harden did not get paid market value from the Thunders and it is not really anyone fault. This is how the structure of the NBA is and you will see player leaving teams and players getting traded just to reflect the salary structure of the NBA.
In any case, Harden might feel that he can emerge as a bigger star in a bigger market than in Okc because the stars of that team is Durant and Westbrook. Look at Tracy McGrady, even though he has injuries throughout his career, he left Toronto playing behind his cousin Carter and emerged as a bigger star than Carter and even though the Raptors was not a championship team, this was a better move for his career than staying playing second fiddle to Carter and with Harden The Rockets are making moves and I do think they will be in that playoff hunt soon. They have a good squad and injuries slow them down last year too.

I'd rather be the star of a team for more money then be a 6th man, I don't care how much playing time I get I rather start then come off the bench it just doesn't work like that, and if u haven't been paying attention, the rocket are a lot better then before especially with Martin playing the way he has

Houston not making the playoffs? James Harden has potential to be a 25 PPG guy and Lin can surely learn from it. They have a great team and they're just missing a few pieces. Definitely a top team in West.

Glad they signed Ibaka first; don't worry cause OKC still got a big three without him. It might not necessarily be his greed for money that made him not want the offer, but because he believes he's worth more than that. Contracts are kind of like a ruler to measure a player's value, and I guess maybe he thought his value was lower than expected relative to other players. Who knows, but either way I think it's good for Harden because he can fully develop his talents elsewhere as a true role player and leader, not the third guy anymore.

This is just me but I believe NBA players who are from over seas, are more loyal then the Americans NBA players. Harden was never loyal to Thunder because if he was, he would have stayed & chance to win a ring. I guess money does talk.
P.S. I would have given him 60 million because he's NOT worth 80 million. He still young & good but he has no experience.

Yeah it does seem very high for a guy who hasn't been in a situation to show leadership. I don't agree with those who've lost respect for him. I mean, fans whine and whine about the stars taking less money to join up to win titles, then they whine about players who go for more money? The other thing this does for Harden is it allows him to show what he's capable of and not play fourth fiddle or whatever. Maybe that's what he's after and I can't fault him.
I do think he's overpaid though.
