Gutless 1986 Jeep Cherokee V6?

are they all that way, or is something wrong? I have one for a winter vehicle, runs & drives perfect, 89k miles, gas pedal might as well be a switch. 15 mpg on a good day, pulling a snowmobile trailer is a chore for it. doesnt foul plugs, burn oil, or miss a beat. just gutless. my '94 2.4 litre toyota pu has twice as much power. WTF???

It is a 2.8l and GM had a lot of trouble with that engine/fuel systems, I know it is a Jeep but in 1986, that was a huge transition for Jeep/AMC/Chrysler.

With 89K miles and no power at any speed I would suspect that you may need to rebuild or replace the engine. Loss of horsepower in the Jeep V6 is common with high mileage. This is usually caused camshaft wear or other internal component wear or failure. The mileage alone is good enough to rebuild/replace. However, given good oil and clean plugs you might check your fuel system. Electric fuel pumps may fail completely or operate at less than optimal flow. If you fuel system is producing enough pressure and rate... That engine is worn out. Sorry for the bad news!

OK! Realize that this means your IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE is dirty and also your THROTTLE BODY! Taking $20 or so to the local quicky lube will restore your power AFTER both are PERFECTLY CLEANED UP> afterward,s remove the factory CHAMPION plugs andi install a set of DENSO TWIN TIPS or BOSCH IRIDIUM plugs. They produce MORE power and also reduce emissions. ALSO do a FULL MOTOR FLUSh and use the newest MOBIL ONE 0W series engine oils They reduce FRICTION and promote more POWER AND ECONOMY by doing so.GOOD LUCK!!

first off i would check the air filter. then i would see the gear differential if it is high for highway driving it wont pull as much but a lower gearing will pull way more. also if it is a automatic then it wont be as good eather but a stick will help alot.

    Run combustion chamber cleaner

If it does not improve do a compression test
