my icons have been highlited on my desktop. i want to bring them back to normal.clear. any help?

i may have clicked something or copied sothing but my icons have been highlighted(background). i don;t how to reverse the process. gone to appearance etc at properties to no avail. please help.

    you might choose ''cut'' just right click and paste back where you got them from
