Do you liberals understand you do not have to be a licensed contractor to work in construction ?

Question

When the illegals came into Florida after the hurricanes, they had one licensed person get the permits.
They did NOT have worker's comp on the majority of their employees, paid them cash, thus no taxes were paid, either to the state or the federal government.
When, on the rare occasion, a government official, (not a building inspector) came to check the jobsite, they swarmed out of the buildings like ants.

It is the greedy Republicans who hire all of the illegals but yet they complain about them being here. All of the people I know who hire "Mexicans" to do cheap work on their homes are all voting for Romney. Their greed and hypocrisy knows no bounds.

It is not legal unless you are an independent contractor. Many contractors try to pull this scam. By law, if he pays you more than $600 in a calendar year he has to give you (and the IRS) a 1099 reporting your income. You have to pay your own payroll taxes (FICA, FUTA, SUTA) and may have to show proof that you are covering yourself with Worker's Comp Insurance. The IRS has clear rules on who may be considered an independent contractor. Check with the IRS before you hook up with this guy.

I'm definitely a liberal, but I'm not in favor of illegal immigration. Most of us aren't. We ARE however very much in favor of legal immigration.
