how to video tape while playing please answer i need one fast.?

ok so when i go to youtube i see people recording while their playing a game with a videotaper and theres others who just record it from the screen so i need help on how to record a video of you doing whatever on an ipod and have it recording.

    Using a Game machine like a Xbox or PS3 or Wii, hook it a DVR, hook the DVR to TV or Monitor.

    Computer gaming, use a screen capture software like fraps to record that.
