Which is better Lake Pyramid or Piru: Ca?
I can't find much information on either... I'd just like to switch it up apart from casitas or castaic or cachuma you know?...
Anyway, no... Just in case your thinking. I'm not sniffing around for secret spots, nor anything of that is of nature. (You should likely know me better than THAT by now guys...) Just which (If you've fished it) You would most likely go to for largemouth?... Also, abit more important to me... Which has a more accsessible shoreline? Like how I'd rather fish the shoreline of cachuma over casitas.
Thanks guys... Please try to answer all the parts of the Q!

PROLOGUE: yahoo said my answer is too long. it will continue as either edits or in the source box or l will figure something out.
I'm sorry... l was gonna take a bit of time off from answering anything but bruce needed an answer on this thing.
Bruce... both piru and castaic (main lake) have accessible shoreline. but since both lakes were built in canyons, they are mostly steep shorelines, at least where any fish might be located with the exception of the face of the dam at castaic. a popular area for both bass and stripers. FYI, castaic has both LM and SM bass but l pursue mainly largemouth and can give info mostly pertaining to them.
both lakes... from the entry gate you may go in both directions as far as you can. from castaic that puts you at the ramp. NO fishing on the ramp but the dam almost to the tower is open. the other direction will give you p'raps a mile, mile and a half, depending on water level. a good way hikable but it starts getting steep at about the mile mark and then you are stopped by a sheer wall. look at your google map and you will see another access point a mile or so on the lake hughes road past the lake entrance. it is gated, no vehicle access, l don't know about parking, but if you can, or get dropped off, after a good hike down the road, you will arrive at another access point that l have never been to and l doubt that any other shoreline anglers have either.

the other way, the west entrance will take you to the west ramp that will give you maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of a mile of fishing off the rocks before you meet the closed area or the other direction which l have no idea how far you may go but most access is a bit steep, dirt shoreline.
that pretty much covers castaic upper lake shoreline.
castaic afterbay - the "dam" such as it is, maybe it should just be called the outlet, is a flat spillway device, maybe 20 - 25 feet above the original streambed (the lake itself had been dug out to a big pit, l've heard between 75 and 100 feet at it's deepest point. l don't know, but it does get rather deep) is crossed by lake hughes road. fishing is allowed only on the east side of the lake, 24 hours, from the road up to a closure just below the dam and operations area. a LOT of quality bass are gotten toward the upper end of this shoreline, about a mile long, more or less.
the afterbay is the closest place to me where they allow float tubes (kayaks and other boats are allowed but no gas engines. a total no wake zone) but l don't really care a lot for it because it reminds me too much of a city park duck pond. no ducks. but l do fish it. it also has some breadboard size crappie. they used to drop bass in it after tournaments because the weigh in was done at a shop closer to the afterbay. it has some giant bass. could be the reason for the lack of ducks. crawdads are all over, especially the rocky spillway area. a major food source for afterbay bass and cats as well as the main lake. a good spot to get craws to use anywhere (like fish, illegal to transport to other bodies of water but "what the hey...". probably the best spot. they are sold (probably illegally) at the shop in town. guess where they come from...

Piru - NO dam access except from a boat. l consider the dam area one of the very best spots. the rocks are full of bass candy. clicker jigs. crayfish. cats also. besides, it reaches the deepest area of the lake, a consideration l shall soon explain.
okay. so you enter at the entrance. turn right, right in to the lake main area. when the lake is fill, or near so, there is a major cove right there. a lot of level shoreline getting steep toward the mouth of the cove. this is to the left of the ramp. the far side of the cove stops you at a sheer rock wall. the near side leads you on to the ramp.to the right, beyond the ramp and marina area, you have steep shoreline, STEEP shoreline. you can walk it if you want. many people do, at least partway. you can follow the trail. go further at your own risk. there are a couple flat spots you can reach but most of it is quite steep. when l was younger, nothing stopped me. l fished a heck of a lot of piru's shoreline beyond most other people.

l will post the rest as a question of my own...
Source(s): it took me an hour but l finally got it done - even if it was limited about pyramid. look for three questions from me for the complete answer - and PLEASE don't report me... - ?Lv 44 years ago
