Is this a mean thing to do to my housemate?

One of my housemates is extremely messy and it annoys the hell out of me. One of the annoying things that she does is leaves her litter on the work surfaces in the kitchen. Not just things that need to be washed up, but actual rubbish like empty bread wrappers, empty soup cans, empty crisp packets, empty ready meal boxes. It's all because shes too lazy to walk over to the bin. It's not even as if she will tidy it eventually- she never touches it again. It's always someone else who will end up tidying up after her. There was once an expty packet of crisps that she left on the table so I waited to see how long it would be until she moved it. It was there for over 2 months until me and another housemate had a massive clean-up in the kitchen. Once the bin was too full in her bedroom so she started opening her door and throwing her rubbish out into the hallway instead. So of my friends gave me an idea to collect the rubbish she leaves around over a period of time, and then when there's quite a lot, stick it all to her bedroom door. I'm very tempted to do this because maybe then she'll realise how much rubbish she leaves around. I've asked her numerous times to clean up after herself but she can't be bothered and it's always me who tidies up after her. Is it too mean to stick all her rubbish to her door or not?

Since you've told her to move the stuff before and she still doesn't move any of it, I think you should stick the rubbish on her door coz then she'll realise how much it annoys you and how disgusting it is.

Then maybe she'll come to her senses and start throwing her rubbish away.

What's the worst that can happen? Apart from her starting to stick more rubbish on her door looooool

Hi. It's not a mean thing to do at all. Your house mate is just taking you for granted and cos you are doing things for her then she will let you. She is taking the p*ss. What I would do if I were in your position is I would get a months worth of rubbish and then tip it in he bed. Tell her you will do this as a warning, then do it if she doesn't change. Don't let her do this to you and your other house mates. Your not her parents. Tell her if she doesn't change then you and the other house mates will throw her out. Sounds drastic I know but you're not there to look after her.

Nope! You have to make sure she knows you don't want to clean up after her any more!!! If she confronts you about it tell her "I got sick of cleaning up your rubbish so I gave it back to you." If think once you've done this she may start putting her rubbish away and if she doesn't keep putting it in her room SHE'LL GET THE MESSAGE SOON!

Seems kind of petty to do that and will only get a bad response. You and your clean roommates need to talk to the messy one as a group. Be calm but tell her you ladies are tired of having to clean up after her. She needs to clean up after herself immediately after she eats like everyone else or she needs to move out. (In my mind, I would be throwing her litter in her face while I spoke but that would be the immature petty side of me coming out.)

    Good luck!

its imperative that you dump the trash in her room - she needs to be trained for marriage. so, first cover the trash in syrup and ants. then, place it in between her sheets. do this every 2 weeks until she cleans up good. bear in mind, she might decide to revenge. so be ready!
