How hard is the ASE exam?
Judging by the answers here by people claiming to be certified 'master' techs I assume it's a 2 hour course with an open book exam.

Actually its not hard if you study up and it depends what certification you try and get, and the benefits outweigh the cost and time. The Honda dealer I work at requires multiple different ASE certification from light trucks and cars to diesels even though you may not need to work on them if not you had to have alot of experience before hand. You need at least three years of practical experience working with another mechanic at the certification you want to get. Then you need to enroll Enroll in and complete the courses for your ASE certification training during or after that work experience. Then you have to finish the course (6-months to a year) then take the test, you can also take these classes in question online now! Then the tests can also be online as well. But I suggest you contact them or visit there website beforehand as well as making sure you know what you want to be certified in:http://www.ase.com/Tests/ASE-Certification-Tests/W...
Best of luck

It's actually fairly hard and you need several years of experience to be allowed to take it. There are different tests for different specialties and obviously some are easier than others. Don't believe what anyone claims to be on Yahoo. There are lots of 12 year old brain surgeons and airline pilots.
