Hi, I am Indian and already know Kannada so I was wondering how hard it will be for me to pick up Hindi?

Kannada is completely different from Hindi as it originates from the Native Dravidian language, not the Aryan Sanskrit. But I am sure you already know this.

You can take courses in it like anybody else, but don't expect a leg up because you already know Kannada, knowing Kannada will not help you in learning Hindi (if you knew languages like Punjabi, Urdu, Rajasthani, Bhojpuri, then you would have had an advantage).

However, if you completely emerge yourself in the language, then you can learn it faster. To do this you should try learning from someplace (classes, Rosetta Stone, private teacher, etc.) and then try to converse, watch movies, and listen to songs. The more exposure you get to Hindi, the faster you will learn it. I will tell you this though; because Hindi is so interposed with English nowadays, you don't need to learn perfect Hindi to talk to someone in Hindi. In this way it is easier to learn Hindi than any other North or South Indian language.

    Hope that helps.

I have heard that Rocket Hindi is a good course for learning the Hindi language. Have you tried any courses?

Start listening to hindi songs, watch hindi movies and TV serials, you shall soon pick up the language.

I don't speak those languages. I do have a friend that speaks English, Gujarati, Hindi, and a little bit of Sanskrit. It seems like if you know one of them, it is a lot easier. It shouldn't be TOO hard for you.
