2004 Chevrolet cavalier won't start, click, turnover?

My husband's 2004 Chevrolet cavalier literally came to a stop and rolled when he pulled in from work on Friday. There had been no previous warning or indication of any problems. We also noticed the gears (it is an automatic) were really loose. I'm not sure if this is part of the problem, but worth mentioning.

So, we try to turn it on and there is no clicking, sputtering or turning over, but the electrical works. Dash lights up. Even still, we did attempt to jump it and input in half a quart of oil in to troubleshoot. The oil stick appeared to be OK, but since the car hasn't been warmed up, I couldn't get an accurate reading on the oil.

I can provide more details, if needed. Any ideas at what this issue could be would be GREATLY appreciated:) it is going to be a couple of weeks before I can get it to a shop. If I can't get it started, it will have to be towed, and I imagine that will be quite the expense:(

Thank you all.

It's an electrical problem. Get the alternator tested. This same thing happened to my 1997 Cutlass. I was driving down the road and it just shut down and rolled to a stop, then wouldn't start again, like the battery was dead, but all the lights still worked.

it looks like a defective throttle place sensor. the tps feeds information to the computor to set gas/air blend at idle and occasional throttle. you may replace it your self in case you have somewhat mechanicle means. additionally a fix handbook ( haynes or chiltons) can assist you in identifing the tps and replace technique
