Someone has said Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christian?

because they do not accept Jesus Christ as God.

Yet evidence shows were the trinity comes from.. So who is wrong and who is right?!

Neither the word Trinity nor the explicit doctrine appears in the New Testament, nor did Jesus and his followers intend to contradict the Shema in the Hebrew Scriptures: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord” (Deuteronomy 6:4). The earliest Christians, however, had to cope with the implications of the coming of Jesus Christ and of the presumed presence and power of God among them—i.e., the Holy Spirit, whose coming was connected with the celebration of the Pentecost. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were associated in such New Testament passages as the Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19); and in the apostolic benediction: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (2 Corinthians 13:14). Thus, the New Testament established the basis for the doctrine of the Trinity.

The doctrine developed gradually over several centuries and through many controversies. Initially, both the requirements of monotheism inherited from the Hebrew Scriptures and the implications of the need to interpret the biblical teaching to Greco-Roman religions seemed to demand that the divine in Christ as the Word, or Logos, be interpreted as subordinate to the Supreme Being. An alternative solution was to interpret Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three modes of the self-disclosure of the one God but not as distinct within the being of God itself.

The first tendency recognized the distinctness among the three, but at the cost of their equality and hence of their unity (subordinationism); the second came to terms with their unity, but at the cost of their distinctness as “persons” (modalism). It was not until the 4th century that the distinctness of the three and their unity were brought together in a single orthodox doctrine of one essence and three persons.

The Council of Nicaea in 325 stated the crucial formula for that doctrine in its confession that the Son is “of the same substance [homoousios] as the Father,” even though it said very little about the Holy Spirit. Over the next half century, Athanasius defended and refined the Nicene formula, and, by the end of the 4th century, under the leadership of Basil of Caesarea, Gregory of Nyssa, and Gregory of Nazianzus (the Cappadocian Fathers), the doctrine of the Trinity took substantially the form it has maintained ever since. It is accepted in all of the historic confessions of Christianity, even though the impact of the Enlightenment decreased its importance.

Being a Christian is one who accepts Jesus as "Gods SON" like the Bible teaches and NOT "God the son" which the bibles does NOT say!

A TRUE follower of Jesus is one that follows him and his teachings and, for example Jesus said:

"All authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth. Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.” Matt 28: 19-20

I see not one else other than Jehovah's Witnesses following Christ in this way, in fact if it were not for the Witnesses I would still be a atheist sitting at home moaning about God, NO ONE ELSE took the time to tell me about God, NO ONE, not at work nor in the park, nor at my market place, NO ONE in 25 years!

Just to say that JUST to believe in Jesus makes one a Christian is totally false, a Christian is a footstep follower of Christ, and.........

True Christians are the ones that:

    1) Base their teachings on the Bible

    2) Worship only Jehovah and make his name known

    3) Show genuine love for one another

    4) Accept Jesus as God’s means of salvation

    5) Are no part of the world

    6) Preach God’s Kingdom as man’s only hope

See "Who are God’s true worshipers on earth today?

EDIT @ Panait C....you have shown yourself to be ignorant of JW's as it is the Mormons that

used to practice polygamy and not JW.

Jesus saying that he was "the son of God" does not prove he is God but rather "the son of God" how can you not understand a simple statement like that !

I am a jesus freak. I am in love with jesus and I most certainly am a christian and my walls are covered with pictures of him calming the waves raising the dead confronting satan holding children his birth his mother the apostles and so many of him doing all that he did Because they come from the watchtower society and the greatest man who ever lived book the entire tale from before birth to death in pictures and scriptures realistic ones and if you want one they are free colors beauty and jesus christ my savior and you if you are a christian no matter what church you go to you are my friend and brother and jesus knows that we know that we just also know that Jehovah's name was removed by demonically possessed wolves in sheep's clothing who lie and say jehovah is jesus cause he's not, he's the father in the heavens, and the last time i looked... you worship the father in the heavens!!! When your a christian ,you may think they are the same but you are not worshiping jesus at all !!! When you pray to the father and sing hallelujah.... jah, is jehovah's name and we have put his name back in the bible over 7000 times in the old and new testament where it belongs because we are christians.and we are all preachers we are ministers not like a parishinor who never preaches! So you see we do have the truth ,...the truth is the son of god!! He is the way, the truth, the light ,and the life ,and no one comes to the father except through him. End of story so pass the word !! ha ha!... pass,... the word ...Jesus!!!!get it? o .. ok ..it was droll ,but a little funny maybe.

Actually there are evidence in the New Testament for Jesus being God. Jesus says to the former blind man: "Do you believe in the Son of God?" and when he is asked who that person is Jesus answers: "It is Him who speaks with you now!" meaning himself. Also Peter responds to Jesus : "You are the Christ, the Son of living God" and Jesus praises him for what he said. Also Jesus said : "Me and my Father are one. Who had seen Me has also seen the Father.". Also Jesus commands the apostles to baptise all in the name of Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit.

Jehovah witness have many reasons for not being called christians: 1. As the catholics they separated from the main church , thus the passing of the gift of the Holy Spirit from priest to priest was interrupted.

    2. They adopted false teachings.

    3. They practise bigamy. Christ said that the marriage should be between a man and a woman.

Christianity has Christ's name in it for a reason. To be a Christian the whole idea is that you accept that Jesus CHRIST died on the cross and came back to life in order that his death and spilt blood cleansed anyone who takes him as their saviour will be given ever lastingl life- somewhere around John 16-18. So if there is any doctrine that differs to this and Jesus is not accepted as a saviour then that belief is not Christian simply because the old testament does not actually have Jesus in it yet- that is why they wrote the new testament cos some blighta (Jesus forgive me) got born then died on the cross. THAT IS WHY THERE IS NEW TESTAMENT ALL ABOUT HIM> he is important. Actually

without Jesus CHRIST Christianity woul not exist.

    Chris·tian

    Adjective:

Of, relating to, or professing Christianity or its teachings.

    Noun:

A person who has received Christian baptism or is a believer in Jesus Christ and his teachings.

I don't see anything about thinking Jesus is God in the definition. If they believe in Jesus Christ and his teachings, they are Christians. If they don't, they are not.

  • Christianity is defined as the religion that accepts Jesus Christ as God. There are a number of other religions that regard Jesus Christ as very important, including Jehovahs Witnesses, the Unitarian Churches and Islam, but they are not Christian. Arguing that JWs are Christian is like trying to argue that cats are dogs. They are something different.

Jehovah's Witnesses follow the teachings of their founding fathers, Russellites. Followers of Jesus accept the teachings of the New Testament and do not let the teachings of men interfere with the truth that is in Christ.

Christians are born again, death to self and new life in Christ and there is no pressure to witness to earn your salvation for it comes by grace and not by the works of man.

your wrong the teaching jesus is god is taught in the new testament and the old testament

the Encyclopædia Britannica is wrong in what it claims

john the apostle sates what jesus had confirmed to the apostles

    John 1:1-3

    Amplified Bible (AMP)

1 In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word (Christ) was with God, and the Word (Christ) was God Himself.

2 He (Christ) was present originally with God.

3 All things were made and came into existence through Him (Christ); and without Him (Christ) was not even one thing made that has come into being.

    John 1:14

    Amplified Bible (AMP)

14 And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory (His honor, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving-kindness) and truth.

The Jehovah Witnesses originate from Pennsylvania. Grammatically there is only one pen in Pennsylvania and the Jehovah Witnesses I feel claim to own it outright. They don`t define themselves as Evangelical. Nevertheless most people would define them as such.
