    N = 1000 * 10 to the power of x

    N = 1000 * 10^x

    1000 = 10^3

    (3 is not the answer. It's just the exponent of 10 that makes it equal to 1000)

    N = 10^3 * 10^x

    Multiplying - add the exponents

    N = 10^(3 +x)

    N = 125

    125 = 10^(3 + x)

    Take log of both sides

    log (125) = 3 + x

    2.096910013008056 = 3 + x

    Subtract 3 from both sides

    x = -0.903089986991944
