Should I pursue what I love and the let the government meet my basic needs when I don't?
Isn't enjoying life more important than having to worry about old age, health care, education, crisis, house payments and the like. If I want to sculpt beavers from wood and I love it, can I just spend my time doing that and let any economic short fall be made up by others.

Enjoyment is important but you cant enjoy a life if you don't have money to spend your living. What will you eat? can you live without a house?
So first find a job that you love (+ enjoyment) then find a girl to marry (+enjoyment) have a cute son/daughter (+enjoyment)... when you fulfill it all then retired and have fun traveling the whole world with your wife plus you have money every month from your pension. ^_^
