Why do some 'gay' men talk with a lisp? Is it an affectation, or is there a physiological reason?
I deny any homophobia. As with other groups of humanity I like those people that I like and I don't like those that I don't like, irrespective of race, sexual orientation or which football team they support. I' just curious. Thanks in advance for your response.

Have you ever hung out with a group of people or person for so long that you started sounding like them? That's kinda what happens. Some gay men prefer to hang out with women and so they develop habits that girls have which is to talk in that manner. That is why not all gay men have this "voice". It depends.

Eh, I think it's important to remember that language, like so many other personal signifiers, emerges through a combination of nature and nurture. People do find certain common traits among the way gay men speak: more careful pronunciation, more musical speaking style with a broader note range than straight men, and the hyperpronciation of the "s" that some people call a lisp. I'm sure a lot of people have a natural tendency to speak that way--I remember David Sedaris writing a memoir about having to go to speech therapy as a kid, and his suspicion that it was a program specifically for gay kids. But, of course, you also have to note that individual differences are more prominent than group similarities, and also that, despite natural speaking tendencies, people can change the way they speak intentionally. I know that some people are conscious of intentionally making themselves sound more or less gay depending on how they want to be perceived.

kinda wondered this myself. always assumed changing you tone of voice and adding a lisp were prerequisites for being gay.
